Jam Recipe: How to Make Plum Jam

Plum is one of the most healthy food we consume in summer months. By making plum jam, you can transfer the taste of plum to the following seasons and enjoy its beautiful color and taste in your breakfast dishes. You can save this plum jam in your pantry throughout year.

Plum Jam Recipe

If you use a small plum variety, you can use it without dividing into pieces. Otherwise, you need to cut the plum into edible sizes. The variety I use is a plum variety that is widely produced in Noth-Eastern Blacksea coast of Turkey called “black plum”. So I used the plum as a whole.

Here are the ingredients and step-by-step instructions for making plum jam:

Ingredients:

  • 2 kg. of plums
  • 2 kg of sugar
  • 1 lemon juice

Instructions

1- First of all transfer the sugar into the cooking pot.

2- Then add enought water to make sure the sugar is completely wet.

3- Then turn on the heater and bring the syrup to a boil.

4- Let the syrup boil for around 10 minutes and have a transparent look.

5- Now you can add the washed plums into the boiling syrup with care.

6- Press the plums remaining on the top with the help of a slotted spoon.

7- Then let the syrup boils until all the plums homogenously leaves their color into the syrup.

8- When all the plums boils equally, reduce the heat.

9- Now we can cook our jam for about 2 hours over low heat.

10- During this process, the slotted spoon is left inside the pot so that it does not boil over.

11- Remove the foam formed on the surface with the help of slotted spoon.

12- When the jam boils for 2 hours, add the lemon juice.

13- Give a final mix so that the lemon juice blends with the syrup well.

14- Lastly turn off the heat and cool it off.

15- The plum jam that reaches to the room temperature is ready to serve.

16- Transfer it to the suitable jars and/or storage boxes.
