Plum Jam Recipe
If you use a small plum variety, you can use it without dividing into pieces. Otherwise, you need to cut the plum into edible sizes. The variety I use is a plum variety that is widely produced in Noth-Eastern Blacksea coast of Turkey called “black plum”. So I used the plum as a whole.
Here are the ingredients and step-by-step instructions for making plum jam:
- 2 kg. of plums
- 2 kg of sugar
- 1 lemon juice
1- First of all transfer the sugar into the cooking pot.
2- Then add enought water to make sure the sugar is completely wet.
3- Then turn on the heater and bring the syrup to a boil.
4- Let the syrup boil for around 10 minutes and have a transparent look.
5- Now you can add the washed plums into the boiling syrup with care.
6- Press the plums remaining on the top with the help of a slotted spoon.
7- Then let the syrup boils until all the plums homogenously leaves their color into the syrup.
8- When all the plums boils equally, reduce the heat.
9- Now we can cook our jam for about 2 hours over low heat.
10- During this process, the slotted spoon is left inside the pot so that it does not boil over.
11- Remove the foam formed on the surface with the help of slotted spoon.
12- When the jam boils for 2 hours, add the lemon juice.
13- Give a final mix so that the lemon juice blends with the syrup well.
14- Lastly turn off the heat and cool it off.
15- The plum jam that reaches to the room temperature is ready to serve.
16- Transfer it to the suitable jars and/or storage boxes.
